Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President’s Special Envoy, announced that at the conclusion of the third round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, both sides agreed to continue efforts toward reaching a deal to halt the war.
On Wednesday, February 29 (Iranian calendar), Witkoff said in a post on the social media platform X that, under the direction of President Donald Trump, the United States facilitated the third round of trilateral talks involving Russia and Ukraine. He emphasized that Trump’s initiative to bring the two sides together contributed to tangible progress in the negotiations.
According to the U.S. special envoy, both parties agreed to brief their respective leaders on the latest developments and to continue working toward a potential agreement. Witkoff also stated that he is “proud” to serve under President Trump’s leadership in efforts aimed at ending the conflict.
Meanwhile, Reuters, citing a source close to the Russian delegation, reported that the first day of the two-day negotiations in Geneva concluded in a “highly tense” atmosphere and lasted approximately six hours.
Despite the tense environment during the initial session, the decision to continue negotiations signals ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and seek a political resolution to the war.
